Zhao Shilong introduced that various temperature sensors have been invented, such as traditional thermocouples, thermal resistors and radiation thermometers, but most of these temperature sensors can only be used in traditional applications. As the application of temperature measurement continues to expand, innovation, research and development of temperature detection have been ongoing, and conventional temperature sensors have been unable to meet the requirements of many fields, especially in the high-tech field.

"Compared with traditional temperature sensors, fiber optic temperature sensors have the characteristics of high reliability, good insulation, anti-electromagnetic interference, good repeatability, fast response, and low price, which have become one of the important directions for the research and development of new temperature sensors." Zhao Shilong said that it is especially suitable for temperature measurement in harsh environments, such as high current, high magnetic field, flammable, explosive, and corrosive. It has high research value and broad application prospects.

In the Zhao Shilong team's project, the research team based on the fluorescent fiber temperature sensor uses some metal ions, especially the luminescence of rare earth ions in different matrices, by establishing the relationship between the fluorescence parameters of the metal ions in the matrix and the temperature, thus obtaining the test The characteristics of the temperature of the substance are studied.

"By designing and optimizing the composition and process of oxyfluoride glass-ceramics, highly transparent rare-earth doped oxyfluoride glass-ceramics were obtained, and the composition of glass was analyzed systematically for temperature sensing of glass network structure and physicochemical properties. The influence law of sensitivity.” Zhao Shilong said that the rare earth doped oxyfluoride microcrystalline glass fiber matrix material developed by this project can provide scientific basis and technical reserve for the development of high-precision fiber optic temperature sensor for the development of special optical fiber with independent intellectual property rights. The project research has published 13 SCI papers, including 5 TOP journal papers, 3 national patents, and 5 graduate students. During the implementation of the project, Zhao Shilong was selected as the leader of the young and middle-aged disciplines in Zhejiang higher education institutions and was awarded the title of Outstanding Teacher of Zhejiang Province in 2018.
