On May 26, 2015, the 4th International Symposium on Reliability of Internal Combustion Engines was held at the China Workers' House in Beijing. More than 150 representatives from well-known R&D institutions, universities, auto and internal combustion engine and parts and components companies from home and abroad attended the conference.

Ye Shengji, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and Dede Hui, director of the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Reliability of Internal Combustion Engines gave a speech on the reliability development of the internal combustion engine industry; Director of the National Information Center Xu Changming described the development of the auto industry under the new normal state of China and its product technology. Upgrade and cost control; Xing Min, executive vice chairman of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, introduced China's “13th Five-Year†internal combustion engine energy-saving emission reduction and green development ideas. At the same time, representatives from Austrian AVL company, Germany FEV, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Weichai Power, China FAW Group and other famous universities, research institutes and industry representatives made a special academic report on the reliability of the internal combustion engine. The atmosphere of the seminar was strong and the interaction was lively. In just one day, the agenda was compact and rich in content that benefited participants.

The reliability of the internal combustion engine is an important technical issue related to the long-term healthy development of the internal combustion engine industry in China. China has now become a truly world-renowned producer of internal-combustion engines. China's internal combustion engine production accounts for about one-third of the world's output, of which the output of automotive engines ranks first in the world. However, with the rapid growth of production, the reliability of internal combustion engine products cannot be ignored. Compared with developed countries in the world, reliability has always been the biggest gap between us and the level of international advanced technology. Since July 2011, the SAIC Motor Vehicle Engine Division has successively held three international symposiums on the reliability of internal combustion engines. Each symposium has assembled domestic and international experts in the field of reliability research of internal combustion engines and components, Organizations and units have played a positive role in promoting the innovation and development of reliability technologies for the internal combustion engine industry in China.

In recent years, many domestic internal combustion engine companies and colleges and universities have made arduous efforts in reliability technology research and application. On the one hand, domestic companies have achieved remarkable results in the basic research of internal combustion engines, in conjunction with international research institutes and universities. Take Weichai for example, Weichai Power Co., Ltd. has established the “International Engine Reliability International Technology Innovation Alliance†with 18 famous universities, institutions, and enterprises at home and abroad such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin, and Tsinghua University, and is currently developing cooperation projects. There are 16 items; on the other hand, domestic auto groups, internal combustion engines, and parts and components companies such as Weichai , FAW , Yuchai , Xichai , Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles and others have all actively explored and applied reliability technology. Capital investment, these have played a huge role in the research and application of reliability technology in the internal combustion engine industry.
Reliability is a manifestation of the core competitiveness of the internal combustion engine. It is related to the implementation of the national policy on energy conservation and emission reduction, and it is related to the safety and interests of consumers. With the quantity of quality assurance, the market size is determined by reliability. Continuously improving the reliability of the internal combustion engine is the basic connotation of the sustainable development of the automobile and internal combustion engine industries, and is also an important mission for China to realize the power of the automobile.
