On April 11th, the Pilot Township Fire Protection District (Herscher Fire) received a call for a structure fire. Just moments before the emergency was reported, a discarded cigarette came into contact with an open propane canister, causing a powerful explosion that damaged a nearby home and a fence. The response included multiple fire departments: Herscher Fire Department, Limestone Township Fire, Salina Township Fire, Essex Fire Department, and the Reddick Community Fire Department. The incident highlights the dangers of improper disposal of smoking materials, especially around flammable substances.
