Automotive Lightweight Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance Established

Newspaper News, Ningbo, December 27th The National “Automobile Lightweight Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance” (abbreviated as Lightweight Alliance) was established to explore an effective mechanism for integrating production, learning and research. It was established today at the Geely Group Ningbo Base. This is an important strategic measure for the implementation of the Outline of the National Medium- and Long-Term Scientific and Technological Development Plan and the establishment of a national innovation system. Li Xueyong, secretary of the party group of the Ministry of Science and Technology, sent a letter of congratulation to the conference.

The lightweight alliance supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the SASAC consists of China Automotive Engineering Society, China FAW Group Corporation, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd., Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd., and China Automotive Engineering Research The institute consists of 12 institutions including Jilin University, Harbin Institute of Technology, East China University of Science and Technology, Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., and Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd.

Li Xinnan, deputy director of the Department of Policy, Regulation, and System Reform of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that the strategic alliance for automotive lightweight technology innovation aims at the needs of technological innovation, with the goal of revitalizing the Chinese automobile industry as a banner, and acquiring the lightweight core technology of automobiles as its goal. The combination of research and development, state-owned enterprises and private enterprises combined, central enterprises and local enterprises combined, the automotive industry and the material industry combined to break through the bottleneck of the development of automotive lightweight technology. The Ministry of Science and Technology will strongly support the operation and development of the alliance.

The establishment of the alliance is an active exploration of ways to improve the independent innovation capability of China's auto industry. Its purpose is to promote collaboration, promote innovation, achieve mutual prosperity and common prosperity, and form a long-term mechanism for joint resolution of common key technologies among enterprises and between enterprises and research institutes, improve the competitiveness of ethnic enterprises, and strive to build government, production, education, Research and use a multi-win technology innovation platform.

The medium and long-term goal of the alliance is to focus on meeting the requirements of national automotive energy conservation, safety, and environmental protection, carry out research on common key technologies for the application of lightweight automotive materials, overcome and autonomously master key technologies for light weight, and increase the application level of lightweight materials for the automotive industry.

Fu Yuwu, executive vice chairman and secretary-general of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers, believes that the lack of key common core technologies in the automotive industry is a bottleneck restricting the development of China's automobile innovation. This technological innovation alliance has emerged as a major breakthrough in science and technology systems and mechanisms. Collecting industry forces and amassing industry resources will have a profound impact on the development of the automotive industry.

Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang Geely Group, said that lightweight alliances will use their respective advantages to enhance the technical level and international competitiveness of China's own brand cars.

After three to five years of independent innovation, the alliance will enable China's car models to reduce their weight 8-10%%, the safety of the national car collision and side collision safety requirements. Commercial vehicles reduce the weight of about 300 kilograms to reach the current level of lightweighting of similar international products. Basically forms the core of the automotive lightweight technology innovation system. At the same time, a number of lightweight generic technologies with independent intellectual property rights and significant impact on the industry have been developed and promoted to enterprises. After the meeting, 12 companies signed a signing ceremony.
