Car into a building in Chicago, 2-28-21

Here's a message from Steve Redick:

On the early morning of February 28th, I captured these images near the 4500 block of North Austin. They were taken the following day. I've never seen a car embedded so deeply into the corner of a building before—it’s quite astonishing when you take a closer look. What really caught my attention was that the Chicago Fire Department allowed a contractor to handle the wreckage instead of staying on scene. I would have been concerned about potential fire hazards or structural collapse. I wasn't there to witness what happened before this, so I can’t say much about the cause, but I thought these photos were worth sharing.

It’s rare to see such an extreme collision, and it makes you wonder what led to it. The fact that the CFD didn’t stay on site is a bit unusual, especially given the potential risks involved. I imagine the area must have been very quiet at that time of night. If you look closely at the photos, you can see how deeply the vehicle was lodged into the structure. It’s definitely something that stands out. I hope the situation was fully resolved without any further complications. These images are a powerful reminder of how quickly things can go wrong—and how important it is to stay alert on the roads.
