Double fatal fire in Chicago, 2-28-21

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

A tragic house fire in Gresham, Illinois, claimed the lives of a 10-year-old girl and her mother early Sunday morning. The incident occurred in the 8600-block of South Hermitage, where Ieashia Ford and her daughter Porsche were found dead inside their home. According to family members, the two were asleep when the fire broke out, and they believe it was no accident.

Four other individuals were hospitalized following the blaze, including the mother’s boyfriend and two cousins. All are expected to make a full recovery, though the fire and police departments are still investigating the cause. Firefighters managed to rescue six people from the house, but only four survived.

Amid the grief, there is growing concern that the fire may have been deliberately set. Relatives revealed that the mother had recently been involved in an argument with someone who had been harassing her. “He was sending her threatening text messages and even said he would set her house on fire,” said family member Felicia White.

Arson investigators were at the scene shortly after the fire, but officials have not yet confirmed the cause. For now, the incident is being treated as both a fire and death investigation.
