Parts companies prepare for heavy trucks


Faced with the “big trend” of high tonnage and high power in the heavy-duty truck market, domestic parts and components companies are not indifferent, and some companies have started to take active actions.

As a heavy-duty engine manufacturer, FAW Xichai took the lead in making breakthroughs. Through cooperation with Austrian AVL company, FAW Xichai launched the "Aowei" CA6DL four-valve high-power diesel engine with independent intellectual property rights in 2004, covering 260 horsepower to 350 horsepower (190 kilowatts to 257 kilowatts), and the emission reached Euro II. The standard, using EFI technology, meets Euro III standards, and has European IV potential, with fuel consumption of only 195g/kW·h.

In July 2005, the Shanghai Hino P11C Euro III engine was put into production in batches. As a result, Shanghai Hino became the first domestic manufacturer of mass-produced Euro III high-power engines. According to the person in charge of the company, Shanghai Hino Engine Co., Ltd. grasped the trend of heavy trucks in China, and the original product that was determined was a high-power engine with a power of 300 kW or more. Although there are few domestic enterprises capable of producing more than 300 kilowatts of power engines, and they have not reached mass production, Shanghai Hinoi believes that high-power engines are in line with market trends and have spent more than one year meticulously preparing for production. Considering the current market acceptance capacity, the first product launched by Shanghai Hino has a slightly lower power of 240 to 280 kilowatts.

Some companies in the axle and gearbox industry are also prepared. Wang Shengtang, secretary general of China Gear Professional Association, said that in recent years, with the rapid development of domestic highway and logistics industry, heavy-duty trucks with more than 15 tons have developed rapidly. Large tonnage and high power will be the inevitable trend for heavy truck development in the future. After more than 10 years of development, the domestic transmission and axle industry has formed a number of key enterprises. These backbone enterprises are still prepared for the heavy truck trend, mainly in two aspects: First, some key enterprises begin to consciously integrate their suppliers, organize their own industrial chain, and jointly develop; Implement a series of measures such as purchasing standards and supporting standards to improve the technical level of self-supporting companies.

“Although there is still a certain gap between independent brands and foreign advanced levels, there is still great hope.” Secretary-General Wang Shengtang is optimistic about whether domestic independent brand enterprises can keep up with the market situation.

Some companies better respond to market changes through technology introduction and joint ventures. Facing the increase in demand for larger torque and single-stage reduction bridges in the heavy-duty truck market, Shaanxi Hande Axle Co., Ltd. and German MAN Co., Ltd. signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement in 2004, introducing the MAN F2000 series heavy truck bridge technology, fully digesting the international leader. The MAN F2000 series heavy truck axle technology completes the development of MAN485, MAN425 single-speed reduction bridges and achieves mass production in order to better meet the technical requirements for China's heavy truck bridges to upgrade from Steyr platforms.

Determined to build China's largest and most powerful heavy-duty transmission production base, Shaanxi Fast aims at the market opportunity for heavy-duty truck transmission gear sales. At the end of 2003, it joined hands with Eaton Corporation of the United States and established the controlling stake in Eaton Corporation and Shaanxi Fast Company. Eton Fast Gear (Xi'an) Co., Ltd. The company mainly produces gearboxes and requires a large amount of gears. Therefore, Shaanxi Fast has an exclusive investment of 500 million yuan. Next to the joint venture company, Xi'an Fast Automotive Transmission Co., Ltd. was established. It plans to produce about 350 gears per year. Thousands (150,000 sets of gearboxes can be assembled). Xi'an Fast Automotive Transmission Co., Ltd. was fully put into production in September 2005.
