The root system was analyzed through the root analysis system. The spatial distribution of plant roots in the walnut-wheat composite system and the monocropping system was compared and the composite system was evaluated by the land equivalent method. The results showed that the root surface area density and root mass density of walnut and wheat in the composite system were smaller than that of walnut monocropping and wheat monoculture of the corresponding soil layer; the roots of 1a raw walnut and 2a raw walnut in 20~40cm soil layer in the composite system The surface area density was 30.36% and 26.18% lower than that of 1a raw walnut monocropping and 2a raw walnut monoculture; the wheat root surface density was 20~40cm deeper than that of 1a raw walnut intercropping and 2a raw walnut in composite system. Monocropping decreased by 23.7% and 59.2%; the root mass density of 1a raw walnut and 2a raw walnut in 0~40cm soil layer in the composite system and monocropping system was 75.31% of total root biomass in 0~100cm soil layer, 82.84 %, 76.76%, 83.23%; 0~40cm soil layer is the overlapping niche of walnut and wheat root system, which promotes the uneven distribution of root system in the composite system; the aboveground biomass equivalence ratio (1.620 and 1.617) of the composite system is greater than 1, Compared with the corresponding single cropping model, the land use efficiency is improved.
