On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, firefighters from Buffalo Grove were dispatched to 2500 Millbrook Drive after a fire broke out in a trash compactor near a loading dock. The blaze was initially contained to the dumpster outside the building, but smoke spread throughout the warehouse, prompting emergency responders to take action. To gain access to the materials inside, the fire department called for a wrecker to move the dumpster away from the structure. Firefighters worked to douse the remaining embers, but an attempt to dump the contents of the dumpster proved unsuccessful, as they wanted to ensure no hidden fire sources remained.
The location is situated near the border with Lincolnshire, and the first arriving unit was Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Truck 51. Emergency crews worked quickly to control the situation and prevent the fire from spreading further. Several photos from the scene show the efforts of the firefighters, including the use of blowers to ventilate the area and the arrival of a heavy wrecker from Ernie’s Wrecker Service to assist in removing the dumpster.
Additional images capture the fire department’s response, including Buffalo Grove Fire Department Engine 26 E-ONE Typhoon, as well as firefighters using hoses to extinguish the flames. More photos are available at Shapirophotography.net.
