In a significant milestone for China's private manufacturing sector, a massive 100-ton speed reducer was recently transported by a specially designed long-haul truck to the Tangshan Changting Iron and Steel Company. This groundbreaking equipment, developed and manufactured by the Changzhou Reducer General Factory Co., Ltd., marks a major leap in both weight and technological sophistication within the province. It is not only the heaviest reducer ever produced in the region but also the first of its kind among private enterprises nationwide.
“This is a historic achievement,†said an official from the Wujin Economic and Trade Commission. The reducer industry has long been crowded with numerous manufacturers, leading to fierce domestic competition. Meanwhile, as global economic integration accelerates, international giants from Germany, France, and Japan have entered the Chinese market, capturing most of the mid-to-high-end segment. This breakthrough by Changzhou’s factory demonstrates that the city’s industrial competitiveness is not only growing but also becoming more formidable on the global stage.
The success of Changzhou Reducer General Factory, a private enterprise, can be attributed to two key factors: effective investment and a strong focus on independent innovation. Over the past two years, the company has invested over 100 million yuan in technical upgrades and introduced more than 50 million yuan worth of advanced German machinery. This has kept its technology at the forefront of the industry. Additionally, through continuous research and development, the company has successfully launched several large-scale products, including cement grinding roller reducers, electric vertical mill reducers, metallurgical flap reducers, and water pump reducers. All these products meet international standards, yet their prices are only half of similar foreign alternatives.
Through persistent investment and hard work, the factory has managed to differentiate itself and escape the trap of homogenous competition. Today, it holds a unique position in key sectors such as coal, steel, cement, and wind power. Its products are essential in certain applications where no other alternatives exist, and it has even contributed to the success of the Shenzhou VI space mission. In just a decade, the company’s operating revenue surged 11 times compared to 2001, while tax payments increased 15 times during the same period.
The launch of the first 100-ton reducer by a domestic private enterprise has made Changzhou Reducer General Factory a prime target for multinational corporations. Since the start of this month, numerous companies from the U.S., Japan, and Germany have reached out to explore potential partnerships. Industry leaders estimate that high-end equipment exports will at least double this year, signaling a new era of growth and international recognition for the company.
