A union official stated that the factory is two-shift, but only two days a week. After Captiva ceases production, sales will continue to fall. "After the company announced the closure of the factory, the image has been declining. It is the company, not the union, that needs to be blamed."

On April 2, local time, GM Korea said its sales volume in March was almost halved from the same period last year. In March, GM’s domestic sales fell by 58% to 6,272 units. Including exports, the overall sales of GM Korea slipped to 41,260 units from 50,850 units in the same period last year. In February, GM’s domestic sales fell 48%. In contrast, sales of Hyundai Motor Korea increased by 6%, while Kia Motors increased by 2%.

In February this year, GM announced that it will close down a factory in Korea's Gunsan and said it is considering the future arrangements for the other three South Korean factories. According to reports, GM plans to close the Korean Gunsan plant in May this year. About 2,500 employees (approximately 15% of the factory's workers) have already applied for resignation subsidies proposed by GM. In the annual salary negotiations conducted last month, the GM Korea's trade unions did not ask for salary increases or benefits as they did in previous years, but asked GM to provide future production plans and ensure employment.
