This is from Steve Redick:
On Sunday, I covered the still and box alarm at Cortland and Kingsbury, an industrial area where a fire broke out in a large scrap metal operation. A massive pile of junk cars was burning. Since this location is right by the river, Engine 2, the large fireboat, was dispatched to the scene. They eventually connected a 4-inch line to Engine 55, which then used a multi-purpose nozzle. There were some discussions about using the big water cannons, and the "crows nest" turret on the back of the boat was raised, but there wasn’t a clear shot at the fire from the river. Access to the area was very limited, and I was shooting directly into a bright, low sun—very challenging conditions. Despite that, I managed to capture some interesting images of the fireboat in action, as well as what appeared to be an air monitoring unit deployed by the hazmat team.
