In December 2007, Yuchai successfully launched its independently developed engine cooling system simulation and pump performance comprehensive testing rig — the water pump simulation gantry. This marked a significant milestone in Yuchai’s efforts to enhance its testing capabilities and meet the growing demands of its internal combustion engine development.
Prior to this, domestic manufacturers’ test rigs were unable to fulfill Yuchai’s need for multi-functional testing. In response, Yuchai’s technical team proposed an ambitious plan in 2006: to develop an in-house pump simulation test bench. The project officially began at the start of 2007, with Tan Baixin, the chief mechanic from the stock division, leading the team. The project members included experts and technicians from the manufacturing technology department, technical center, maintenance center, and quality assurance department.
After nearly a year of dedicated work, the test rig was finally completed in December 2007. It now allows for precise testing of various parameters such as flow rate, pressure, head, cavitation, and efficiency of both individual pumps and the entire diesel assembly under controlled temperature conditions. The development team is currently making final adjustments to the system, with plans to officially launch it in January 2008.
Most of the sensors used in the gantry are imported, ensuring high precision and reliability. All testing procedures are designed in full compliance with national standards, particularly the "JB/T8126.1 ~ 8126.2-1999 Internal Combustion Engine Cooling Water Pump Industry Standard." According to performance tests conducted under these standards, the system demonstrates accuracy and stability that far exceed industry benchmarks. Additionally, the entire testing process is automated through custom-written programs, which handle measurement, data recording, and storage, offering maximum flexibility and full compliance with engine cooling system requirements.
