Data from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that road traffic injuries were the first cause of death among 15-44 year olds in China and the second cause of death among people aged 1-14.
On May 30th, the “Children and Road Traffic Safety†seminar sponsored by the Institute of Public Communication of Renmin University of China was held in Beijing. According to Gao Yan, director of the Traffic Safety Technology Research Department of the Traffic Management Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, in the past 10 years, children aged 0-15 in China have died more than 30,000 people due to traffic accidents, and more than 140,000 children have been injured. The analysis shows that there are obvious regional characteristics of children's traffic accidents. Gao Yan suggested that local governments should analyze the actual situation of the local city in order to formulate a more accurate response strategy.
According to Pang Jinxi, senior manager of the International Public Welfare Promotion Department of China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., the current domestic children's traffic safety legislation is mainly achieved through the revision of local minors protection regulations and the revision of local road traffic safety regulations. Regarding the advancement of legislation, Pang Jinxi suggested that the mandatory use of child safety seats should be written into the Law on the Protection of Minors.
