The expert group believes that the laboratory will provide strong support for the research and development of key common technologies for marine coatings in China, the training of advanced engineering and technical personnel, and the advancement of science and technology in the industry.

The key laboratory aims to build a high-level research and development platform for marine coatings, and establish a three-level research and development chain for basic research, applied research and engineering experimental research of marine coatings, mainly based on marine antifouling technology, heavy anticorrosion technology and functional coating technology. Direction, strive to study the new anti-fouling mechanism, bionic anti-fouling coating structure design, new anti-fouling agent, metal and concrete corrosion mechanism and protection method under extreme corrosive environment, high-performance heavy anti-corrosion resin synthesis, durability accelerated test evaluation method Breakthroughs in research on common technologies, functional coatings, functionalized resin synthesis, and process research.

It is understood that with the development and utilization of marine resources in various countries of the world, marine engineering facilities and equipment have achieved rapid development, and traditional marine coatings have been difficult to meet the requirements. First, the addition of traditional marine coatings such as anti-fouling antifouling coatings and solvent-based heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings has been gradually banned. For example, the International Maritime Organization has completely banned the use of tributyltin-containing antifouling coatings since 2008, and prohibits the use of permanent chemical pollution. The Stockholm Convention provides that the use of anti-fouling coatings for DDT-containing fishing vessels will be completely banned from 2010. Secondly, the international demand for coatings for the protection of marine facilities has long-term requirements, requiring anti-fouling coatings to achieve a five-year effect, marine heavy-duty coatings to achieve 15 years of effectiveness, it is difficult to achieve this requirement in general marine coatings; The long-term effect of the coating is currently based on the actual use of accumulated data, and there is no accurate test evaluation method, which raises new questions for marine coating researchers. Third, the market puts forward new requirements for the performance of marine coatings, such as heavy corrosion protection requirements in extremely corrosive environments, high heat reflectivity requirements for coatings to reduce energy consumption, and safety for protecting offshore platforms and ship workers.
