In order to further enhance the quality and safety of agricultural products, it is essential to strengthen the supervision and control of pesticide production and usage at the source. In line with the unified regulations issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant departments, Tianjin Municipality has recently introduced a new set of rules aimed at raising the standards for pesticide regulation.
Tianjin has significantly increased its requirements for pesticide residue levels and the content of active ingredients in pesticide products, ensuring that all agricultural chemicals on the market are both safe and effective. Starting from January 8th next year, the approval of new pesticide product names will be suspended. From that point onward, only common names or simplified common names will be used for pesticide labeling. Additionally, starting July 1, 2008, pesticide products sold in the market will no longer be allowed to use proprietary product names.
Moreover, the grading range for the active ingredient content in pesticide formulations must not exceed 5%. The concentration of the active ingredient in the same formulation should remain consistent across different product types. Any added penetrants or synergists must not reduce the level of the active ingredient. In the instruction manual, the pesticide name must be clearly marked on the label, and the area of the trademark cannot be larger than the area of the product name.
From this year onwards, 12 agricultural districts and counties in Tianjin have begun establishing 300 green farm chain stores to completely prevent the entry of highly toxic pesticides into the market. They have also implemented and improved systems such as "sales ledgers" and "integrity cards" for agricultural inputs like pesticides. To ensure full compliance with these new regulations, Tianjin has designated 2008 as the Year of Pesticide Registration Management, marking a significant step forward in the regulation and oversight of agricultural chemicals.
