In December 2007, Yuchai successfully launched its independently developed engine cooling system simulation and pump performance comprehensive measurement test rig — the water pump simulation gantry. This marked a significant milestone in the company's efforts to enhance testing capabilities and meet the growing demands of its internal combustion engine development.
Prior to this, domestic manufacturers' test rigs were unable to satisfy Yuchai's need for multi-functional testing. In 2006, Yuchai's engineering team proposed an ambitious plan: to design and develop an in-house pump simulation test rig. By early 2007, a dedicated project team was formed, led by Tan Baixin, the chief mechanic from the stock division. The team consisted of experts and technicians from multiple departments, including manufacturing technology, the technical center, maintenance, and quality assurance.
After nearly a year of intensive work, the test rig was finally completed in December 2007. It now allows for precise testing of various parameters such as flow, pressure, head, cavitation, and efficiency of both individual pumps and complete diesel engine assemblies under controlled temperature conditions. The development team is currently fine-tuning the system, with plans to officially launch it in January 2008.
Most of the sensors used in the gantry are imported, and all testing procedures strictly follow national standards. According to the "JB/T8126.1 ~ 8126.2-1999 Internal Combustion Engine Cooling Water Pump Industry Standard," the results show that the accuracy and stability of the system far exceed industry benchmarks. In addition to the installation of pumps and piping, the entire testing process is automated through custom programming, which enables automatic data measurement, recording, and storage. This ensures maximum flexibility and full compliance with engine cooling system testing requirements.
