Ll Global Logistics uses RFID to save labor time

One of Asia's largest logistics providers, ll Global Logistics, now uses RFID technology to track the receipt, storage and shipment of goods in its Singapore facility, with the goal of accurately understanding the location of the product through Internet software. Although the system is only available for three months, the system can save a lot of labor time based on pre-implementation research, said James Chan Chok Kiong, general manager of innovation, technology and operations development at Toll Global Logistics.
Ll Global Logistics ships and stores customer goods in several countries, including Thailand, North Korea and Australia.
The company's main goal is to gradually eliminate manual cargo tracking, reduce labor, and capture and share cargo visibility.
The company wanted to adopt an automated software solution running on the Microsoft platform and chose S3Edge's Spotlight solution, which uses Microsoft BizTalk RFID, a program that Toll Global calls the RFID Enterprise Applications Platform (REAP).
In the first phase of the application, 150,000 pallets in all areas of the company were tagged with Gen 2 UHF passive RFID tags with unique ID codes. When the goods arrive at the company, the employee uses a Motorola MC9090-G RFID handheld device to scan the container barcode, then reads the RFID tag of the pallet, and then associates the barcode with the RFID data and sends it over the Wi-Fi connection. Side BizTalk Server. The S3edge software on the server stores data that the user can view.
The employee sends the pallet through a fixed RFID gate reader that sends the data to the backend database indicating that the product has been received by the warehouse. The forklift truck with the RFID reader reads the pallet label and the buried label along the way from the entrance to several areas of the warehouse. The forklift reader sends data to the back-end database via a Wi-Fi connection, indicating which forklift the pallet is being sent to. The warehouse shelves are also affixed with RFID tags. When the forklift reader placed the pallet, it not only read the pallet label, but also read the label of the shelf, system upgrade data, said SushEdge CTO and business development director Anush Kumar.
One of the advantages of this system so far is its high precision, Kiong said. Although the company used a paper pen record and barcode scheme in the past, it is very error-prone. The S3Edge system eliminates manual errors, said Kelvin Tan, R&D manager at Toll Global Logistic. In addition, Tan said the system provides automated data that eliminates the time difference between the receipt or storage time of the goods and the time the data was entered. “The vast majority of all, in real time, we can decompose the process and see the efficiency of each step.”
Although only Toll Global employees can use the system, the company plans to charge a fee to make it available to its customers as a value-added service.
It’s still too early to measure the benefits of this system, Tan said. However, prior to installation, the company completed a study comparing the labor time recorded with RFID labeling pallets and traditional bar code or manual ID. The company concluded that by eliminating manual handwritten serial codes, the system reduced processing time per pallet by 6 minutes and saved 625 days of labor per year.

Jiantong Hardware provides a full service precision Sheet Metal Fabrication shop. Our diverse capabilities allow us to manufacture one piece, prototypes and/or production quantities. We can design methods and procedures needed to reduce the costs of manufacturing your sheet metal parts and assemblies.

Typical materials used in our manufacturing processes are carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, aluminum and many different types of alloys.

Tight tolerance complex sheet metal fabrications in many cases require machining as a second operation. With our in-house machine shop, vertical CNC machining, turning, threading and grinding provide machine shop capability when required.

Stainless steel weldments and assemblies such as machine guarding, electrical cabinets, water tanks and decorative stainless steel weldments require surface finishing after welding. Our experienced and skilled staff can provide surface finishing and graining that blend the welded area into the grained or polished stainless steel making the welded area disappear.
