China's styrene polymerization inhibitor technology matures

Just after the Spring Festival, Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company was informed that Sinopec’s “Ten Long” research project—Qilu Petrochemical Plastic Factory’s 200,000-ton-per-year styrene plant uses a new type of environmentally friendly and efficient polymerization inhibitor product. The styrene distillation tower reactor The amount of polymer produced was reduced by 38% and the yield of styrene was increased by 1.5%. This not only completely changed the disadvantages of the large amount of traditional nitro-styrene polymerization inhibitors, high toxicity, and poor polymerization inhibitory effect. The energy consumption and material consumption of the device are significantly reduced, and the annual energy saving and efficiency increase is more than 3.2 million yuan.
This new type of environmental protection inhibitor was successfully developed by Beijing Spiral Technology Development Co., Ltd. Its performance has reached the international advanced level, and it has now obtained the invention patent right of the State Intellectual Property Office. The product is non-toxic, free of metals, halides and nitrogen oxides and is a green product. Its application can effectively improve workers' operating conditions and protect the environment. At the same time, the product has a very strong ability to capture free radicals, clean dispersion and metal deactivation ability, for the styrene purification system can effectively inhibit the free radical polymerization of styrene, improve styrene yield, extend the operating cycle of the device .
Plastics Plant of Qilu Branch of Sinopec Corp. introduced the Lums EP process technology from the United States in the 1980s and built a 60,000-ton/year styrene plant. In 2004, it formed a 200,000-ton/year styrene plant capacity. According to the requirements of the patented technology, the device has been used as the styrene 2,6-dinitro-p-cresol (DNPC) or 4,6-dinitro-2-sec-butylphenol (DNBP) recommended by Rums. Distillation inhibitors are installed, but the polymerization inhibitors have low activity and it is difficult to eliminate the polymerization reaction. The amount of addition on the production line is large and the toxicity is high.
In recent years, new high-efficiency polymerization inhibitors have been used on foreign styrene devices. In August 2005, Qilu Petrochemical Plastics Factory commissioned the Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Research Institute to conduct an experimental evaluation of the styrene distillation inhibitor developed by Spiro, and began testing the inhibitor on a styrene plant in March 2006. The product has now been running continuously for 22 months. The application results show that compared with the original use of DNPC or DNBP, the use of a new type of environmentally friendly polymerization inhibitor can reduce the polymer by 38% in the rectification process under the same working conditions; the device can save more than 3.2 million yuan in energy efficiency; The total amount of the agent is reduced by 45%-50%; the tar viscosity is reduced, and the tar loading time is shortened from the original 7.8 hours to 3.8 hours. At the same time, the operation cycle of the reboiler in the distillation tower is effectively prolonged, the emission of nitrogen oxides is reduced, and the corrosion of materials to the equipment is reduced.
