SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B unit.

**SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B Unit** At Nationwide Coils, we’re always excited to take on new challenges that help our customers improve their HVAC systems. Recently, we completed another successful microchannel conversion for a major telecommunications company in South Texas. This particular job involved a Trane TCD600B unit that originally came with eight all-aluminum MCHX coils. While these coils were functional, they weren’t the most durable or efficient option. We decided to upgrade the system by replacing them with two larger copper tube, aluminum fin coils — making installation easier and improving performance. The conversion process went smoothly. The customer was able to place the new coils back into the unit with only minor modifications. Each coil is over 5 feet tall, more than 6 feet wide, and weighs around 175 pounds. Despite their size, the installation was straightforward thanks to our custom design. One of the key benefits of this conversion is the increased durability and efficiency of copper tubes compared to all-aluminum microchannels. This makes the system more reliable and easier to maintain over time. After seeing the results, the customer reached out again to schedule quarterly replacements for their other Trane RTUs. They also requested a small adjustment — increasing the end plate flange length by ½ inch. This would make the flange 1.5 inches long, allowing them to rest the casing on it and secure it with self-tapping screws. We received some great photos from the customer showing the installed coils and the details of the modifications they wanted for future units. It’s always rewarding to see how our work makes a real difference. What sets Nationwide Coils apart is not just our expertise in MCHX conversions, but also our ability to customize commercial HVAC coils to fit specific needs. OEMs often can’t offer this level of flexibility, which is why many of our clients choose us for their upgrades. If you have an all-aluminum microchannel coil and are experiencing leaks or inefficiencies, consider switching to a copper tube, aluminum fin coil. This conversion is a cost-effective and efficient way to extend the life of your system while maintaining its original efficiency. Ready to get started? Contact us anytime. All we need is the make and model of your unit to provide a tailored solution. Let’s make your HVAC system more reliable, efficient, and easier to maintain.
