SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B unit.

**SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B Unit** At Nationwide Coils, we're always excited to take on new challenges that push the boundaries of HVAC performance and efficiency. Recently, we had the opportunity to complete another successful microchannel conversion for a major telecommunications company in South Texas. This time, the job involved a Trane TCD600B unit — a model known for its reliability, but also for the limitations of its original all-aluminum microchannel coils. The original unit featured eight MCHX coils made entirely of aluminum. While these were lightweight and cost-effective, they often struggled with long-term durability and thermal efficiency. For this project, we decided to upgrade the system by replacing those coils with two larger, more robust copper tube, aluminum fin coils. This not only improved the unit’s performance but also made installation significantly easier. The conversion process went smoothly from start to finish. Our team worked closely with the customer to ensure everything fit perfectly, and the unit was back up and running with minimal adjustments. Each coil is over 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide, weighing approximately 175 pounds — a testament to their sturdiness and high-quality construction. After seeing the results, the customer was so pleased that they reached out to us again to convert their additional Trane RTUs on a quarterly basis. They’ve also requested a small modification: increasing the end plate flange length by ½ inch, making it 1.5 inches in total. This adjustment will allow them to secure the unit casing more effectively using self-tapping screws. The customer even sent us some great photos of the installed coils, along with detailed notes about the modifications needed for other units. It's always rewarding to see our work being recognized and appreciated. What makes working with Nationwide Coils unique is our deep expertise in microchannel conversions and our ability to customize solutions for any commercial HVAC system — even OEM replacements. Unlike many manufacturers, we can tailor designs to improve installation, serviceability, and overall performance. If you’re dealing with common issues like leaks or inefficiency in your current microchannel coils, consider upgrading to a copper tube, aluminum fin design. It’s a smart, cost-effective solution that enhances reliability without compromising efficiency. Interested in learning more about MCHX conversions?
