This is from Eric Haak:
There was a fire early Sunday morning (April 12) in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. Around 1:43 a.m., the Main Fire Alarm Office received a Still & Box Alarm for a report of people trapped inside a burning building at 22nd and Wolcott Avenue. First-due companies arrived within one minute of the alarm being dispatched and immediately reported that the fire had already broken through the roof. By 1:45 a.m., the 4th Battalion Chief requested an EMS Plan I and noted that the fire was visible on all three floors of the structure. At 1:51 a.m., Engine 2-2-1 took control of the incident and shortly after ordered a 2-11 Alarm. Just before 2:00 a.m., crews were pulled out of the building as a defensive operation was initiated. Throughout most of the incident, there were multiple master streams operating alongside hand lines. Tower Ladder 5 and Engine 23’s deck gun were deployed in Sector A, while Squad 1A was stationed on Wolcott Avenue in Sector D.About 3:00 a.m., the fire spread into the cockloft of the B-side exposure. To manage the situation, Tower Ladder 39 was brought in as a fourth master stream. At this point, Engines 23, 18, and 39 were all actively pumping at the scene. Fortunately, all 21 residents of the building managed to escape without injury. I apologize if any details in this account are inaccurate—I’ve done my best to provide a clear and accurate description of what occurred.
