In early May, JAC introduced its new generation of light truck model Junling II across the country. This vehicle represents a comprehensive innovation and upgrade of the previous Bell series, positioning itself as a mid-to-high-end option in the 2-ton light truck segment. One of its standout features is the newly launched HUT 808 cab, which brings significant improvements in both design and functionality.
The HUT 808 cab features a more streamlined and modern exterior, with enhanced door locks, bumpers, front covers, wipers, and scrubbers. The interior has been redesigned with ergonomics in mind, making it more comfortable and user-friendly. With a cab width of 1999mm, it can accommodate three people side by side, offering the most spacious cabin in its class. The cab also includes a three-point locking system that allows it to be easily folded forward, and the doors can open at 30°, 60°, or 90° angles for better access. Additionally, the front and rear sunroofs ensure good ventilation and enhance the driving experience.
Junling II is a self-innovated product that builds upon the success of the original Chunling model. As a key model in Jianghuai’s entry into the light truck market, it has gained rapid momentum due to clear market positioning. It has captured a significant market share and continues to grow year after year, with a production and sales volume of over 30,000 units. Despite increased competition from newer models, Junling maintains its strong brand presence and remains a market leader. JAC ranks among the top three in the industry, and the Chunling line has played a vital role in this success.
The head of the Jianghuai Light Truck Division emphasized that the product meets all current national regulations and standards, ensuring safe and worry-free operation for users. Technically, the vehicle is equipped with front and rear shock absorbers, a high-stability chassis, and an upgraded fuel tank to improve transport efficiency. It also features a 24-volt battery paired with a 96-horsepower engine for reliable power performance. In terms of safety, the cab includes side and rear safety barriers, and the structure is robotically welded for stronger and more even joints, making it one of the safest options in its class.
JAC has long focused on building commercial vehicle bases in China and has been a pioneer in the industry. Last year, it introduced the concept of “car-like light trucks,†bringing comfort standards into the commercial vehicle sector for the first time. Through extensive market research and direct communication with consumers, JAC identified a growing demand for driver comfort in the domestic light truck market. While technical performance and load capacity have reached international levels, many products still lack attention to driver well-being.
To address this, JAC introduced the HUT 808 cab as part of a broader product upgrade, including models like Zhongjun Bell, Kuanwei Weiling, and Shuai Ling. The HUT 808 reflects JAC’s commitment to a people-centric approach, offering a spacious interior, practical functions, and world-class safety features that enhance driver comfort.
As market competition intensifies, product life cycles are becoming shorter. Continuous innovation and the development of market-ready products are essential for sustainable growth. In recent years, competition in the light-duty truck industry has become fiercer, especially in the 2-ton segment where Chunling Bell operates. New competitors such as Fujia and Dongfeng have entered the market with models like the Olympic Bell and Dongfeng Jinba Impact. Experts note that product homogenization is increasing, and future success will depend on fine-tuning technical details—something JAC has excelled at.
While the impact of these new entrants may be limited in the short term, the launch of JAC’s new medium-sized truck models is expected to further intensify competition in the Chinese commercial vehicle market.
In the first quarter of this year, the light truck industry grew by 13.08%, contributing significantly to overall truck market expansion. Cumulative production and sales reached 237,148 and 224,319 units respectively, highlighting the sector's strength. The introduction of new models like Futian Ouma and Jianghuai Junling II is expected to drive further growth and bring positive changes to the industry. This year is shaping up to be a crucial period for the light truck market.
