The Mayor of Germany welcomes Chinese enterprises to set up a promotion conference in Cologne

On the morning of August 30th, Cologne, Germany, hosted a conference in Beijing, highlighting the city as a dynamic economic center located in the heart of Europe. During the event, Mayor of Cologne, Dr. Stephan Schramma, emphasized that Cologne is a top destination for chemical companies looking to establish or expand their operations. When asked about the types of chemical companies that have chosen to locate in Cologne, Schramma explained that it's not just large corporations like Degussa or Bayer’s massive chemical park that thrive here. The city also welcomes smaller and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which he believes are particularly well-suited for growth in Cologne. "Our slogan is that the Bayer Chemical Park is the ideal base for R&D, production, and sales for new companies," he said. Schramma pointed out that Chinese companies often lag behind their European counterparts in terms of R&D capabilities. He noted that in China, it typically takes 5 to 10 years for a company to move from small-scale testing to pilot projects and then to full-scale production. In contrast, in Cologne, this entire process can be completed in just one year or even six months. Why? Because the chemical industry in Cologne has a long history spanning over a century, with a wealth of expertise, resources, advanced technology, and a strong talent pool. He encouraged Chinese firms to consider relocating their R&D centers to Germany, emphasizing that now is the right time for them to take advantage of the opportunities available in Cologne. With its established infrastructure, supportive ecosystem, and global connectivity, the city offers an attractive environment for innovation and growth.
