The Mayor of Germany welcomes Chinese enterprises to set up a promotion conference in Cologne

On the morning of August 30th, Cologne, Germany, held a conference in Beijing, highlighting the city as a dynamic economic center in the heart of Europe. During the event, Mayor of Cologne, Dr. Stephan Schramma, emphasized that Cologne is a top destination for companies in the chemical industry. He explained that the city offers an ideal environment for both large and small enterprises. When asked about the size of chemical companies that choose to operate in Cologne, Schramma responded by mentioning well-known firms such as Degussa and Bayer, which have established major chemical parks in the region. Beyond traditional sectors like coatings, tires, and plastics, he pointed out that there's a growing need for fine chemical companies to set up operations in Cologne. He added that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) particularly thrive here due to the supportive business ecosystem. “Our slogan is that the Bayer Chemical Park is the best base for new companies to conduct R&D, production, and sales,” Schramma said. He also noted that Chinese companies often face longer timelines when it comes to testing and scaling up their products. In China, the process from small-scale testing to full production can take 5 to 10 years. In contrast, in Cologne, the same process can be completed in just one year or even six months. Why is this possible? Schramma attributed it to the long-standing tradition of the chemical industry in Cologne, which has over a century of history. The city is home to a wealth of skilled professionals, advanced infrastructure, and extensive resources. “It’s time for Chinese companies to consider moving their R&D centers to Germany,” he concluded, highlighting the benefits of innovation and efficiency available in Cologne.
