On December 25, the 5 million tons/year atmospheric distillation and vacuum unit at Wuhan Petrochemical Plant was officially completed by China Communications. This milestone marks a significant step forward in enhancing the company’s refining capabilities. Once fully operational, the facility will boost the company’s overall processing capacity to 6.5 million tons per year.
It is reported that Wuhan Petrochemical started construction on an oil upgrading and refining project back in September of last year. The project includes several key units such as a 5 million tons/year atmospheric distillation and vacuum unit, a 1.2 million tons/year delayed coking unit, a 1.9 million tons/year coal-to-diesel hydrogenation unit, a 60,000 tons/year sulfur recovery system, a 2 million tons/year hydrocracking unit, a 1.8 million tons/year catalytic feedstock hydrogenation unit, and an 80,000 cubic meters/hour hydrogen production unit. Once all these facilities are completed and put into operation, the plant's total processing capacity will reach 8 million tons per year.
This expansion will not only meet the growing demand for high-quality gasoline and diesel in Central China but also supply raw materials for Wuhan’s 800,000 tons/year ethylene production unit, supporting downstream chemical industries.
Additionally, the 1.2 million tons/year delayed coking unit, along with the 60,000 tons/year sulfur recovery equipment and the 1.9 million tons/year coal-based diesel hydrogenation system, are currently under construction. These ongoing projects further underline Wuhan Petrochemical’s commitment to modernizing its refining operations and improving environmental performance through advanced technology and cleaner production processes.
