Breaking the foreign technology monopoly and independently developing the first large thermal power unit

In 2005, the first 600MW thermal power unit control system developed and manufactured independently by a Hangzhou-based company was successfully implemented at the Shaanxi Guohua Jinjie Coal and Electricity Project. This marked a significant breakthrough in overcoming foreign technological barriers within China's high-end equipment manufacturing sector. The project, led by Hangzhou Heli Time Co., Ltd., demonstrated the company’s growing influence and capability in industrial automation. For over a decade, this high-tech enterprise has been quietly operating in the Hangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone. Through persistent independent innovation, it has repeatedly challenged foreign technology monopolies, ending an era where foreign firms dominated the industrial automation market. The company's journey reflects a strong commitment to self-reliance and long-term development. Located in the electromechanical park of the Hangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, the factory may appear unremarkable at first glance. However, it is home to cutting-edge technology that supports major projects such as nuclear power plants and urban subway systems. The site is part of the national "Large-Scale Complex Process Integrated Automation Control System – HOLLiAS Series Products Industrialization" project, with a total investment of around 100 million yuan and a production capacity of 1 billion yuan. The project is expected to pass national inspection this year, becoming the largest professional automation manufacturing base in China. Heli Time is the first Chinese company capable of providing large-scale computer systems for nuclear power plants and the leading manufacturer in urban rail transit automation. Through continuous innovation, it has completed numerous projects at international standards, filling domestic gaps. Since the early 1990s, the company has focused on thermal power automation, with its Helix products applied in units ranging from 50MW to 300MW. The successful implementation of the 600MW unit represented years of accumulated innovation and experience. Beyond thermal power, Heli Time is involved in various industrial automation fields, including nuclear energy and petrochemicals. It is the only domestic brand to enter the nuclear power system. In 1993, the company exported its first computer system to Pakistan's Chashma PC Engineering Nuclear Power Plant, marking China's first large-scale nuclear power export project. To date, Heli Time has participated in over 40 nuclear power instrumentation projects in China, with its Helix system deployed across multiple operational and under-construction nuclear facilities. “Independent innovation has allowed us to continuously approach international standards,” said Wang Changli, President of Hangzhou Hollysys Automation Co., Ltd. “Innovation requires a clear understanding of needs, sustained effort, and long-term focus.” The company’s history is one of relentless innovation, with 15% of annual revenue allocated to R&D. This investment has driven rapid growth, outpacing industry averages and transforming Heli Time into a leading player in the field. With key technologies developed in-house, the company continues to strengthen the foundation of China's automation industry.
